Creating a Clash Detection Test

You can create a clash detection test to check against models (architectural versus structural), or between two categories such as walls versus columns, for example.

When creating a clash detection test, it is not necessary to create a rule prior to the test.

For more information and demonstrations about clash detections, refer to PlantSight, in Bentley Communities.

  1. Open Clash Detection.
  2. From the New list, select Clash Detection Test. For example,
  3. Step 1 of the Create Clash Detection Test wizard appears.
  4. Enter a Name, and a Description for the test.
  5. Select an iModel associated with this project, from the list.
  6. Select a Version from the list.
  7. Click Next. The wizard advances to Step 2. For example,
  8. To define the first set of objects in the clash detection:

Select the Models tab to select one or more models to be used in the clash detection

    or

Select the Categories tab, and then select one or more categories to be used in the clash detection

When you are finished, click Set A to assign these objects to the clash detection set.
  9. To define the second set of objects in the clash detection:

Select the Models tab to select one or more models to be used in the clash detection

    or

Select the Categories tab, and then select one or more categories to be used in the clash detection

When you are finished, click either Set B to assign these objects to the clash detection set, and then click Next.
The wizard advances to Step 3, and all selected objects for each Set appear. For example,
  10. You can set the allowable clearance by adjusting the Clearance and selecting unit of measure values. For example,
Note: Clearance values are defined separately on both SetA and SetB tabs.
  11. If you want to perform a self check for clashes against selected objects within a Set, select Self Check. For example,
  12. When you are finished, click Next. The wizard advances to Step 4.
  13. You can click Add Suppression Rules to create a suppression rule to be applied to the clash detection. For more information, see Creating Suppression Rules.
  14. Ensure that Include Reference Models is selected if you want to include reference models. This option is selected by default.
  15. Ensure that Suppress Touching is selected if you want to suppress clashes when elements are touching, and adjust the Touching Tolerance, if necessary. This option is selected by default.
Note: Selecting this option ignores any predefined Clearance settings.
  16. When you are finished, click Create.
The clash detection test appears in the list.
